Gerald P. López’s Rebellious Lawyering: One Chicano’s Vision of Progressive Law Practice (1992) was the inspiration for RebLaw, an annual student-run public interest conference sponsored by Yale Law School.    The first RebLaw took place in 1994, when Rebellious Lawyering first took law school pedagogy, clinical education, and poverty law practice by storm.

RebLaw is now in its twenty-first year, and is a testament to the lasting influence of Rebellious Lawyering on generations of public interest lawyers who seek to “work in the service of social change movements and to challenge hierarchies of race, wealth, gender, and expertise within legal practice and education.”
